Håmsø Academy 2025/2026 – Open training programme in European patent law

News

4 September 2025

European patent law is constantly evolving. At Håmsø Patentbyrå, we have for many years conducted internal courses to strengthen expertise and to prepare our staff for the European Qualifying Examination (EQE). From autumn 2025, we are opening Håmsø Academy to everyone who wishes to build or further develop their knowledge in this field.

Training led by EQE-qualified patent attorneys

Five of our patent attorneys, all qualified European Patent Attorneys, lead the different modules of the programme.

Participants may choose to follow the entire course or attend selected modules – for example, those covering substantive patent law (novelty, inventive step, etc.) or procedural matters.

The course starts 24 September 2025 and runs until February 2026, with classes held on Wednesdays from 09:00 to 11:00. Participants may attend in person at our offices in Oslo or Stavanger, or join the course online.

Course structure

The teaching is based on official material from the European Patent Office (EPO) and is divided into two blocks:

  • Block I – Theory: A systematic review of EP filing and grant procedures, deadlines and fees, substantive patent law, oral proceedings and PCT rules. This block is open to anyone seeking a solid foundation in European patent law, including trainees, lawyers and staff at the Norwegian Industrial Property Office (NIPO).
  • Block II – Exam preparation: A targeted programme for candidates preparing for EQE Paper F, with in-depth study of legal issues, claim interpretation, case studies and practice on past exam papers.

Practical information

  • Time Wednesdays 09:00–11:00 (September 2025 – February 2026)
  • Sted: Oslo/Stavanger eller digitalt.
  • Cost: The teaching is free of charge. However, participants are required to pay €350 directly to the EPO, which provides access to the EPO’s official course material and digital learning modules.

Open course offering

With Håmsø Academy, we aim to support competence development beyond our own organisation. The programme is open to anyone working with intellectual property who wishes to strengthen their understanding of European patent law.
