Katy joined Håmsø Patentbyrå in 2026 as a European and UK Patent Attorney, after working at two top-tier London-based firms since she entered the profession in 2016.
With a first-class Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College London, Katy's patent practice covers a variety of technologies including automotive and aerospace, medical devices, and consumer goods. She has a particular working interest in complex mechanical inventions such as heat exchangers and rocket engines. As well as drafting and prosecuting patent applications, Katy is experienced in advising clients on the commercial impact of third-party IP rights (freedom to operate), including during a two-year secondment in the in-house legal team of a leading global automotive manufacturer.
Alongside her patents practice, Katy is a specialist in UK and EU registered designs, with a strong record in contentious design matters, including successfully defending designs in invalidity proceedings in the EU and successfully invalidating third party designs in the UK.
For the past three consecutive years, Katy has been recognised as a Rising Star by Managing IP. Katy has also completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Intellectual Property Law from Queen Mary, University of London, and the CIPA IP Litigation Certificate.
