We have in-depth knowledge of the formalities required in the preparation of a patent application. Our team have extensive experience handling applications within their professional fields and can quickly familiarise themselves with most types of patent cases. However, as the inventor, you know your product and area of expertise best. Together, we can combine our skills to create a thorough and comprehensive patent application.
Even though, as the inventor and an expert in your sphere, you may be sure no products similar to your innovation exist, it is wise to fully research this to prevent wasting time and money in the application process. We offer a thorough patent search service, which will ascertain, without doubt, whether a similar product exists in the public domain and help validate your claim for a patent.
Both in a patent search and application, it is important to explain clearly what kind of invention is involved. We will make a comprehensive assessment of your invention to optimise the search and help in the preparation of the best possible application.
Before embarking on a patent search or application, we offer a free confidential consultation with one of our experienced staff to discuss and assess your invention . To arrange your complementary consultation, contact us by phone or email. To make sure you get the most from the meeting, please complete and bring along one of our checklists.
OOur General Terms govern the relationship between you, the applicant, and us, the agency. By signing them and handing over a power of attorney, you formally commission us to prepare the patent application on your behalf and be your representative for the Norwegian Patent Office or a co-operating foreign patent agency, and the patent authority of the country in question, under the terms stipulated. A signed power of attorney will usually have to be submitted to us before the work on your application starts..
TThe cost of preparing a patent application varies according to the complexity of the subject. The final cost depends on the number of hours spent processing the application before it is ready to be filed. The average price is currently about NOK 30,000 + public fees + VAT. Please note that companies with up to 20 employees pay a smaller fee than larger organisations. The handling of the application during the processing period (replying to official statements) greatly depends on what the patent authorities' examiner finds. A minimum average of NOK 12,000 should be expected for this work.
A payment on account of NOK 25,000 + VAT is usually required before any patent work is started. This is subject to agreement in each case.
In addition to the details you supply about your invention in our check list, any further information concerning both your invention and the ’prior art’ (what technical solutions exist today within the field of the invention, and what additional advantages it offers over them) will be welcome. This will form the basis for the patent authorities' assessment of the so-called ’inventive step’ – the technical leap your invention makes over existing products in the same field.
As part of a patent application, it may be necessary to include line drawings to illustrate better the construction of your invention, which affect its purpose and function. Such drawings support a written description. The patent authorities have certain requirements as to the form of such patent drawings and we have designers skilled in the preparation of the necessary digital files (dwg, dxf) from any constructional drawings of principles, details and assemblies you are able to provide.
Once an application has been drafted it will be passed to our in-house quality control team, before being sent to the applicant for comments. Any queries can be clarified at this point, and the applicant has ultimate control over what the application is to contain when it is being filed.
